Longboat Ride and Wat Rong Khun temple, Chiang Rai

We opted for another mode of transportation and embarked on a 2-1/2 hour longboat ride from Thaton to Chiang Rai. It was a fun boat ride, just the two of us, in a dragon boat (as it is shaped like a dragon and small) with the river having many twists, turns and rapids.

This contemporary snow-white Buddhist temple and the nine to still come, are the dream and creation of Thai artist, Chalermchai Kositpipat. His purpose is to create a place of worship to leave to the world.  To come upon these sparkling white edifices in the countryside was a remarkable experience. They have a Gaudiesque feel to them and they are so different from the ordinary Buddhist temple.
