We were fortunate to be able to spend several hours viewing what is considered one of the most unique ceremonies in Bali, which is the cremation of a high priest by his villagers. We marveled at how the Balinese celebrated the priest's death with festivity and joy.
At the cemetery the priest's coffin is transferred from a beautifully decorated pyre and carried up a bamboo ladder by the villagers where the body is inserted into the body of the bull. The women of the village bring offerings of food which is placed on the deceased.
It all goes up in flames and later the ashes are scattered in the ocean.
